Trivia[]

  • This is the first series episode to feature a character from another PBS TV show.
  • In Competition, Caroll Spinney, the voice of Big Bird, had agreed to appear in this episode as he had done similar dialogue with Fred Rogers in an episode of Sesame Street that had aired a few weeks earlier.
  • When Spinney received the script for the show, which required him to remove his costume and discuss the inner-workings of the Big Bird puppet, he refused on Jim Henson's because he didn't believe in ruining the illusion of Big Bird for the children.[1]
  • This is the last time, the porch entrance and exit are used in the show.
